Yes they have to check ID. It's the law as with all age restricted things. We buy our tix online and have never been asked to provide ID ever! Aged 13 and 14, seeing the occasional 15 film.

How strict is Vue with age ratings?

To get into a 12A or 15 rated movie at Vue you are required to take photo ID. The only photo ID that 12-15 year olds are likely to have is a passport not a driving licence as noted on Vue website.


Can a 14 year old see a rated R movie in theaters?

Children 6 and under are not allowed to attend Rated R features. For Rated R Features you must be 18 or older to purchase a single ticket for the feature. A parent or guardian, 21 or over, is required to accompany and remain in the feature with any underage individuals.
