The timeless sterling silver, often heart-shaped jewelry has become highly coveted in every girl’s jewelry collection. However, not many know the history of Tiffany packaging, which finds its roots New York City and Connecticut.

History

It was Charles Lewis Tiffany who started the legacy of Tiffany packaging, thanks to his passion for the finer things in life, specifically, a passion for finding the most beautiful diamonds in the world. Tiffany began his empire with a “stationery and fancy goods” store thanks to a $1,000 loan from Tiffany’s father. It would not be long until the classic Tiffany packaging and its jewelry gained global recognition.

Tiffany packaging has always sought to be on the cutting edge of developing design movements. As early as 1878, Tiffany packaging was winning awards such as the highest honors for its Japanesque silver, featured at the Paris World Exposition.

The Box

The inception of the classic, robins-egg blue and white Tiffany packaging box has been the look of Tiffany and Company since day one. It was Charles Lewis Tiffany who made it part of his mission to make the boxes unique to Tiffany and Tiffany alone. The New York Sun summed it up best in 1906, “Tiffany has one thing in stock that you cannot buy of him for as much money as you may offer, he will only give it to you. And that is one of is boxes.”

To this day, the light blue and crisp white boxes are the epitome of modernity and style, and are seen as a sign of sophistication when found in the hand of its owner.

Today

Since the creation of the Tiffany packaging and its legendary jewelry creations, numerous notable celebrities have often request Tiffany products for events such as the Oscars. Stars such as Anne Hathaway, Kate Winslet, Angelina Jolie, and Natalie Portman have been known to lavish themselves in the delicately elegant Tiffany designs, which are delivered in the famous Tiffany packaging blue boxes.

Tiffany celebrated its 175th anniversary in 2012. The original Tiffany Diamond was reset, and the Tiffany packaging in its blue and white glory was decided to be maintained for years to come.
