Heineken Launches Sustainable Packaging Challenge

Heineken is getting in on two popular trends–crowdsourcing and sustainability–with a packaging challenge. Packaging innovators can submit ideas in one of three Eco-focused categories with the goal of winning the grand prize in a juried competition. Click through to find out more about the challenge.

Heineken’s challenge focuses on three main factors of sustainability: recycling, innovative materials and transportation. Participants can submit their ideas in one of these three categories, and then the finalists will work with experts from Heineken to bring their ideas from concept to reality. The grand prize winner will receive a prize of $10,000 USD.

This isn’t the first challenge Heineken has launched. In the beginning of 2012 the brewer launched a competition to redesign its bottle. The winners–a freelance graphic designer and a design student–will have their design brought to market at part of the brand’s 140th anniversary.
