Wowzers are these perfumes gorgeous or what. Speechless. The line is called “Scent Stories” and they are brought to you be Ah & Oh Studio. The studio says of the package design…

Perfume packaging design and the concept of the perfume were always our dream project. So we took men’s fragrance as our challenge.

At the begining we were concentrating on the idea of the scent itself. We found inspiration in the great, dark literature and distinctive, strong characters. We tried to describe the dark sides of men’s nature with line of scents named after famous writers.

We packed the scents into bottles which resemble both old glass perfume bottles and the classic shape of the inkwell. We made them white, added black strong lettering and heads of characters which loosely recall autor’s famous masterpieces.

This packaging for Quick Fruit was dreamt up by Marcel Buerkle. Nothing has made me crave fruit more than the above and below images. If I were to see these items in a grocery store I would not be able to stop myself from loading my entire cart with them. The packages are for fruit cups of kiwi, oranges and guava, but lets be real, you could convince me to eat mud if it were served in these packages. What makes them so great?

1. The size: It fits perfectly into the palm of your hand.
2. The Shape: It looks like the fruit was cut in half! So cool! Also it is pod-shaped, which I seem to find particularly adorable(I was obsessed with those Poland Spring Aquapods)
3. The Colors: Um yum! The bold colors scream “refreshing!” The images on the lid are also extremely appetizing.
4. Etc: The clear packaging makes the product appear more “honest,” not to mention the food inside looks really good! Lastly, the lid looks easy and mess-free which is always a plus for kid-friendly foods.

Buerkle says of his work;

The idea behind Quick Fruit packaging is a fruit sliced in half showing the core of the fruit as the lid of the product. A clean, simple logo with the letter “Q” depicting a cup with a spoon appears on the lid and side.

I have a love/hate relationship with design that uses illustration. On one hand I LOVE the way it looks, the character it can bring to designs, and the endless fun possibilities it provides. On the other hand I HATE it because it reminds me that I cannot illustrate(well at least like some designers can.)

Nonetheless, for your sake I have decided to be the bigger person and show you this really sweet branding/packaging design for Illegal Burger by Isabela Rodrigues

She writes of this project:

Illegal Burger is a burger joint located in Oklahoma.
We created a visual identity full of icons and aesthetic of the world of crime with an amused tone.
To this end, we created a texture and fill the elements of visual identity with these creations.

The illustrations go wonderfully with the name of the burger joint. The characters such as the robber and the police man, are adorably hilarious and filled with personality. The condiment packaging, as well as the to-go packaging, manages to have the retro feel of a 50′s diner and be innovative and modern at the same time. Well done! Check out more images below.

Perelman Pencils
Designers: Alan Temiraev, Volodenka Zotov
Illustrators: Julien Jules, Phil

There are so many reasons I am obsessed with these pencils(only via the internet–never used them.) Where to begin?

The concept behind the name is awesome; the creators write on their Facebook page:

Grigori Perelman is a Russian mathematician which proved the century-old Poincaré conjecture, one of the world’s most difficult math problems. He was awarded the Field Medal, but turned down a $1 million prize. “Why do I need a million dollars if I can control the uviverse”, he said. Our gang takes our hats off and have great respect for an old pal Grigori Perelman.

I’ve never heard of him fine, but I Wikipedia-ed him and he seems like an inspiring guy.

Reason two, is that they are square. Square pencils are rarer than they ought to be, considering I lose at least two a day from uneven surfaces, when they roll under my couch or behind my desk. The third reason is that they have the pencil “number” printed on the bottom of the pencil, as well as on the box. I know its silly but sometimes it can be a real struggle locating that little(in size not in importance) number. Lastly, the packaging is sweet! The simplicity is refreshing, and the cutout that reveals Perelman’s portrait is super creative.

I am not sure where you can purchase these, but if you know please tell me.

Lets talk about Budweiser’s new beer can that is set to debut May 6th. If you haven’t heard or haven’t gathered from the above image Budweiser is doing something really crazy, they are purposely crushing their cans!! No, just kidding, that isn’t what they are doing. They have made their cans into the shape of a bow-tie to mimic their iconic bow-tie shaped logo. According to Pat McGauley, Anheuser-Busch vice president of innovation, the can was truly a feet of engineering.

“We explored various shapes that would be distinguishable in the marketplace but also viable from an engineering standpoint…Aluminum can be stretched only about 10 percent without fracturing, which requires that the angles of the bow tie be very precise.”

I think the shape is cool, I think it is innovative from a marketing standpoint, and I think it will attract customers. What I don’t think is that the can is, or was, worth all the time and resources they allegedly put into it. The company says it,

“has made significant equipment investments to can-making facilities and packaging lines at the Budweiser breweries in Los Angeles and Williamsburg, Va.”

I think that money, brain power and energy could have gone to a better cause, but who am I to preach! What do you think?

This is just a packaging proposal but we believe it deserves some real consideration. The positive aspects as far as the environment are bountiful(see below) and the aesthetics are definitely NOT compromised. Much in tune with the way Coca-cola has been rebranding itself lately, the above can is sleek, minimal and to the point. In addition this concept would work with Coke’s new larger/cropped logo placement. We think that if Coke doesn’t start this trend someone else should really hop on it.
Proposal by Harc Lee of the UK via Behance

Here are his words on the eco benefits of his design:

“A convex logo substitutes colorfully sprayed can. Naked can help to reduce air and water pollution occurred in its coloring process. It also reduces energy and effort to separate toxic color paint from aluminum in recycling process. Huge amount of energy and paint required to manufacture colored cans will be saved.Instead of toxic paint, manufacturers process aluminum with a pressing machine that indicates brand identity on surface”

Good design happens when the designer refuses to let anything impede on his/her vision. Every square inch of the surface should be used to compliment and complete the piece of design. Steve Simpson certainly felt this way. He would not let the corporate spiritless look of the barcode breakup the whimsical and illustrative nature of his package designs. In addition, he lets you know some barcode designing tips so that you can join in on the fun! Check out his reinvented barcodes and his tips below, and find out more about him here.

Tips
•Colors can be changed but requires good contrast for scanning readability.
•The number string is only there to help the human reader interpret the barcode; change the god damn font!
•Space should be left at either end so the scanner can recognize the beginning and end of the code.
•For readability; there should be a healthy sized horizontal strip of uninterrupted code.
•Test it! Print it out and check it using a barcode reader app on your smart phone.

Aztec and tribal prints are trending in all markets. Some of the latest design to invade the retail experience were targeted at cellphones cases – like the limited edition Mapuche brand iPhone 5 cases designed specifically for Ukavd. The packaging for these lovely printed cases was made by graphic designer Alina Kazachuk, with unique detail and beautiful craftsmanship.

Like they say:

Project information: «Mapuche» is a limited series of iPhone 5 cases inspired by trible theme (The Mapuche are a group of indigenous inhabitants of south-central Chile and southwestern Argentina). We tried several variations of lettering and chose the minimalistic one which is harmonize with brand logo. Wood box makes product exclusive, good-looking, fashionable, hand-made and have good ergonomic characteristics. It`s more than just a box — it`s an art object that can get a second life. Box made of natural wood, has magnet lock, hole on the front side helps to open the box and shows us internal content. Because of this, it can be a pleasant gift for your friends or sign of attention.

Here’s an idea we are 100% on board with – the single hand bandage, now that’s just sheer brilliance! Okay, so you may have noticed that we are a tad on the accident prone side here at the office. But what’s not to love? Specially when addressing the need for a quick bandage if injuries occur on both hands.

Not only is the tape-like dispensing system unique for this product, but it also provides the visual stimuli to soothe a flustered soul after perhaps a traumatic paper-cut experience.

Applying a bandage using a single hand can be challenging, especially when both of your hands are injured. BANDiful tries to solve this problem by applying a special structure to avoid extra steps in unwrapping bandages. With bright patterns, bandages are no longer invisible but beautiful. Normally people use bandages only for small wounds, but by offering a convenient user experience, a consumer could also feel emotionally comforted as well.
